Nvidia has released the three Pascal desktop GPUs for laptops. These are the GTX 1060, 1070 and 1080. The performance of the mobile GPUs comes close to the desktop models, with a lower base clock.

Until now, Nvidia’s laptop GPUs have generally been part of a mobile M-series. The company has broken this trend with the introduction of the new laptop cards in the GTX 10 series. The name remains the same for both platforms and the difference between the two variants becomes smaller. The new laptop GPUs are suitable for VR gaming and are equipped with G-Sync support and ‘Battery Boost’.

Nvidia has not announced anything about the TDP of the laptop cards, but does mention a number of specifications. For example, the GTX 1080 on most points almost corresponds to the desktop version with 2560 cudacores and 8GB gddr5x memory on a 256-bit memory bus. The base clock is slightly lower compared to the desktop version, it comes down to 1556MHz as opposed to 1607Mhz. However, the boost clock is the same again at 1733MHz.

The laptop variant of the GTX 1070 is equipped with 2048 cudacores, compared to 1920 cores in the desktop version. The base clock is 1442MHz with a boost clock of 1645MHz. The card is also equipped with 8GB GDDR5 memory. The GTX 1060 model has 1280 cudacores, which is similar to the desktop version. The base clock of this card is 1404Mhz with a boost clock of 1670Mhz. The memory is up to 6GB.

The improved Battery Boost function makes it possible to save energy by locking the frame rate of games to a certain value. The cards are also suitable for overclocking. The GPUs are available immediately and it is expected that they will be found in gaming laptops from the well-known brands.
