Snapchat buys app that bundles search results

Chat app Snapchat has reportedly bought an app that bundles search results and presents them in a structured way. That reports tech site The Information. Snapchat is said to be putting at least $110 million on the table for the unsuccessful app Vurb.

In addition to that 110 million dollars, Snapchat also pays the only dozen employees of Vurb bonuses to get started at Snapchat, reports the reliable tech site The Information based on several anonymous sources. Neither Snapchat nor Vurb have yet confirmed or denied the acquisition.

Vurb is an app that bundles and displays search results using, for example, Google Maps, Yelp and Uber. It’s unknown what exactly Snapchat wants to do with that, but it’s probably about making accounts and content easier to discover using Vurb’s algorithms. At this point, there’s no way to search Snapchat or get suggested content, capabilities that Vurb does offer.
