MSI has shared a workaround against BSODs on its motherboards with an Intel 600 or 700 series chipset. Earlier this week it turned out that some of those motherboards with the latest BIOS are suffering from such crashes. That happened after Windows 11 update KB5029351.

MSI and Microsoft are self-aware of the crashes and are currently investigating the cause. The companies will provide more details later. Users are initially advised not to install the update. For users who have already installed the update, MSI shares a temporary workaround. The manufacturer says the update may be automatically uninstalled after the crash occurs. Otherwise, it is recommended to uninstall the update and the BIOS from the motherboard downgrade to an older version.

Reports about the BSODs on certain MSI LGA1700 motherboards emerged earlier this week, reports The Verge, among others. Some of these motherboards started experiencing BSODs after installing the Cumulative Update Preview KB5029351. Such updates contain bug fixes and are optional, but despite their Preview suffix, they are already available via Windows Update for the release version of Windows 11. They must be installed manually.

Affected users report that their PC crashes when the problem occurs. They are then shown a blue screen of death with ‘Unsupported Processor’ as the stop code. The crashes may be related to recently released BIOS versions with support for Intel’s upcoming Raptor Lake Refresh processors. According to The Verge, the issue affects MSI motherboards with the latest BIOS installed in combination with update KB5029351.
