Microsoft 365, which includes OneDrive, will receive support for uploading files with a maximum file size of 250GB. That is more than double the current situation.

Microsoft says the maximum file size will be increased from 100 to 250GB. This support for uploading the larger files is coming to Microsoft 365 and applies to SharePoint and Teams in addition to OneDrive. The company says it achieved this increased file size limit by optimizing storage for upload performance.

The new 250GB limit is not currently in effect. Microsoft says it will start making it available by the end of this month. That should be completed by the end of the first quarter of this year, so that all users should be able to use it at least by the end of March. The upcoming increase to 250GB applies to both business and private users.

Until then, the limit is still 100GB. This situation has been in effect for roughly half a year. In July last year, Microsoft increased the limit to 100GB, where it was previously a maximum of 15GB. In addition, Microsoft said that the increase to 100GB should make it easier to share media files or CAD designs, for example. According to the company, the increase to 250GB now makes it easier to upload, for example, 3D models of a new building or 8k videos.
