Microsoft seems to be working on dark theme for Explorer

Microsoft seems to be working on the ability to darken the appearance of File Explorer in Windows 10. The function now only darkens the bar on the left side and must be activated with a hack.

The dark theme was found by Rafael Rivera, who shared his findings shared on Twitter. The feature can be activated by using Rivera’s mach2 hacking tool and entering the command ‘mach 2 enable 10397285’.

Currently, the feature only makes the shortcut sidebar dark and the main window and menu bars remain white. It’s not clear whether Microsoft actually plans to further develop the feature and make it available to all users.

The dark theme option wouldn’t be the only Explorer feature Microsoft is working on and in high demand for. The company is also currently working on the ability to add tabs to File Explorer and other programs. That feature should be available with an update later this year.
