Microsoft has released the first stable version of Windows Package Manager, or Winget, for Windows 10. Winget should make it easier to install, update and remove programs from a repository.

Winget is part of the App Installer in Windows 10. The tool is mainly aimed at IT and network administrators who have multiple computers under their control. The Winget tool makes it possible to manage packages on a Windows PC, including in the Windows Terminal via PowerShell, the developers explain in a blog. There are already similar tools for Linux.

The Winget client, available for download on GitHub, allows users to search for packages in a repository, and install, update and remove them easily with a single command in PowerShell and App Installer. Windows Package Manager is already in Windows Insider systems and will be automatically pushed to all Windows 10 devices soon.

Especially for network administrators, Microsoft has made an additional explanation for the automated installation of programs via Windows Package Managers on computers in a network.
