Marvell has announced its Bravera SC5 generation of SSD controllers based on PCIe 5.0. These are two controllers for SSDs that are intended for data centers and that must enable sequential read speeds of up to 14GB / s.

The two Bravera SC5 controllers are the MV-SS1331 for up to eight nand memory channels and the sixteen channel MV-SS1333. They also support NVMe 1.4b in addition to PCIe 5.0 and support up to four PCIe lanes or two ports with up to two PCIe lanes per port.

Marvell describes that the controllers will get a 72-bit DDR interface, with the option to deploy DDR4 or Lpddr4x. The controllers are based on ten integrated processor cores, including Cortex R8, Cortex M7 and a Cortex M3 core. The latter includes integrated crypto engines for aes, sha, rsa and ecc, among others.

The advertised sequential read speed is 14GB / s, about twice the speed of SSDs based on PCIe 4.0. The manufacturer places the whole on a 20x20mm package and they are suitable for SSDs based on Enterprise & Data Center SSD Form Factors, or Edsff.

Marvell expects customers to announce the first products with the Bravera SC5 controllers in the first half of 2022.
