Microsoft has released a new version of Yammer. The Microsoft social network has a new look and is integrated into various services within Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.

Yammer now uses the Fluent Design, which also includes other Microsoft applications. This makes the service look more like other Microsoft services. The new design includes a new one dark mode for the mobile apps. System administrators can use the new onion via the admin portal of Microsoft 365. It is also possible to use the old layout. It also becomes easier to find new feeds or topics in the app and to mute certain messages or words.

Microsoft is also making Yammer work better with various Microsoft apps. For example, the app is integrated in both Outlook and SharePoint. It is then possible to reply to Yammer messages through the web or mobile apps or to share them further with the rest of the network. This function was already announced as a test for Outlook in the browser in May, but now also works for the applications.

Yammer also gets several new features. For example, it becomes possible for users to send certain messages highlighting in the feed so that they become more visible to others, and it becomes possible to record, edit, and share short videos of up to three minutes over the network. Live video streams can also be displayed in the app and there will be support for adding members to a group from outside the organization. That works via Azure B2B. When exactly the latter function will come, Microsoft does not say.

The app works with Teams. Admins need to add that in the Teams app. The new features are now being rolled out to all users and can be set up through the portal by Microsoft 365 Global Admins and Yammer Network Admins.
