Microsoft has released a test version of Edge for macOS. It is the first time that the browser for Apple’s operating system appears. The experimental version runs on Chromium and works together with the Touchbar, among other things.

An Insider version of the browser can be downloaded from Microsoft’s website. The so-called Canary build can be used on macOS 10.12 and above. In addition to a beta version, a separate Edge version for developers will also be released soon. Microsoft also promises a beta version for Windows 7 and 8.

Edge for macOS is much the same as the upcoming version for Windows based on Chromium, although there are some aesthetic changes that make the browser more compatible with the operating system. What is unique is that users can control the browser with the Touch Bar, for example by switching tabs or operating media. In the future, Edge will also get new privacy tools and an improved way to collect images and text in notes from the web. The latter functions were previously announced and will soon also be coming to the Windows version of the browser.
