Microsoft has released new versions of the Microsoft Emulator and the Windows 10X emulator image. Users no longer need to have an Insider build of Windows 10 to run the test version of the operating system.

The updated images of Windows 10X and the Microsoft Emulator are in the Microsoft Store and carry 10.0.19578 and 1.1.54.0 as version numbers respectively, Microsoft reports. The emulator requires Windows 10 64bit version 17763 or newer, i.e. the October 2018 Update. Previously, a 64-bit version of Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise or Education was required to run the emulator, and then it had to be Insider Preview build version 19555 or later.

New is that images can be found and installed from the emulator in the Microsoft Store. Furthermore, Win32 apps in the container now run similar in window placement to the native containers for msix and uwp apps. In addition, an early version of the new file manager is available. Microsoft reports that it is designed to work with synced OneDrive files, and thus requires a link with a Microsoft Account. Finally, some bug fixes have been made.
