Microsoft has announced that its Your Phone app is part of the new Insider build of Redstone 5. The app allows users to link their Android device to their Windows PC and access files on the phone from within the operating system.

In announcing the new Insider build number 17728, Microsoft reports that users will have access to the Your Phone app, which it announced in May. In the coming weeks, a desktop pin should appear that allows direct access to the app. Users who have a phone with Android 7 or higher and have the corresponding app installed on it, can use a function that automatically synchronizes the latest images with Windows, according to Microsoft.

When announced in May, Microsoft described the app as a way to access messages, photos and notifications from a paired phone from within Windows. However, in the current announcement, Microsoft is only talking about syncing photos. In that context, it speaks of ‘the first set of functionalities’.

It also wants to make the app available to iPhone users. With regard to that platform, it says in its current announcement that the app, for example, lets users continue browsing a page they viewed on their phone on their PC. Within Windows 10 there is already a Phone section in the settings, for example to continue with work started on an Android device or iPhone.
