The upcoming Windows upgrade, Windows 10 21H1, has improvements for work from home and for Windows Hello. Microsoft made this known when announcing the upgrade. It should be out sometime before summer.

Microsoft lists three new features, two of which are aimed at IT administrators. For example, Windows Defender Application Guard gets performance improvements, such as opening documents faster. The update also includes performance improvements for Windows Management Instrumentation Group Policy Service.

The third change mentioned is in Windows Hello; Now if there is a camera that supports biometric authentication in the laptop or tablet itself and users have an external camera that also supports Hello, users can choose which camera Windows should use for Hello. That was not possible until now. This should improve the functioning of external webcams with Hello on laptops that already have an internal Windows Hello camera.

According to Microsoft, 21H1 is a relatively small upgrade and installation will therefore be the same as with a monthly security update. The Beta for Insiders in the Beta channel starts Thursday and the upgrade should be released to all users before the summer. Support for 21H1 will be a year and a half.
