Microsoft and Kano have released a second version of their Kano PC kit. The new model has a more powerful processor and a longer battery life. At $ 300, the price is the same as the first version released in June last year.

The second generation of the Kano PC has an Intel Celeron N4000 processor. That 6W CPU is also based on the Atom architecture, but a lot more powerful than the Atom x5-Z8350 with a tdp of 2W, which is in the first model. The device has 4GB ram, 64GB flash storage, a micro SD card reader and an 11.6 “touch screen. The Kano PC comes with Windows 10 in S mode.

According to the manufacturer, the battery life is ten hours. Charging is now done via USB-C. The USB-A ports have also been upgraded from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0. The Kano PC is a thick tablet with a transparent back and keyboard cover. The device comes with a teaching package that should give children insight into how computers work. Before use, a number of parts such as the battery and speaker itself must be connected.

The curriculum also contains tools and explanations to introduce children to programming and concepts such as input and output, storage, hardware and software. The updated Kano PC is available in the United States for $ 300, both from the manufacturer and Microsoft. According to Kano, the DIY computer will soon also be released in Europe, but a euro price has not yet been announced.
