Meizu announces MX6 smartphone with metal housing and Helio X20 soc

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu has announced the MX6. The device will have a 5.5″ screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, 4GB of RAM and is equipped with the MediaTek Helio X20-soc with ten cores. According to Meizu, the smartphone is 7.25mm thick.

According to Meizu, the 5.5″ screen of the MX6 has a contrast ratio of 1500:1 and a peak brightness of 500cd/m2. The device weighs 155 grams and the housing of the smartphone is made of metal. There is a USB-C at the bottom. port and headphone jack. The fingerprint reader responds according to specifications within 0.2 seconds.

The Android smartphone has 32GB of storage space, while 4GB of RAM is available. The device has a 3060mAh battery, which, according to the manufacturer, can be fully charged in 75 minutes. For the camera, Meizu uses the Sony IMX386 sensor, with a resolution of 12 megapixels and pixels of 1.25 µm. The lens consists of six elements and has an aperture of f/2.0. Autofocus works on the basis of phase detection. On the front is a 5-megapixel camera.

The MT6797, as the Helio X20 soc in the device is called in full, consists of ten cores. They do not work simultaneously, but are deployed according to the required computing power. For example, there is an economical cluster with four Cortex A53 cores that do their work at 1.4GHz and a comparable cluster with four A53 cores at 1.9GHz. The third cluster, for heavy computing tasks, consists of two A72 cores that run at a speed of up to 2.3GHz in the MX6.

Meizu will deliver the MX6 in China from July 30. The device costs 1999 yuan there, converted including VAT that is about 328 euros. It is not yet known whether and when the device will be for sale in Europe.
