Market leader MediaTek to announce 5G socs next week

Taiwanese processor designer MediaTek will announce new socs with 5G integration in its Dimensity series next week. MediaTek became the market leader in the field of processors for smartphones last year.

The presentation is scheduled for January 20, the company said. It also states that these are new products in the Dimensity series; where Helio-socs have modems with 4G, MediaTek places its 5G-socs in the Dimensity series.

It might be the ‘alps’-soc, the MT6893, GSMArena bets. That would become a soc for more expensive phones. It is also possible that there will be new socs for cheaper smartphones. MediaTek became the market leader in smartphone processors for the first time last summer. It took over that position from Qualcomm. This is mainly due to processors for cheaper phones; there are few to no high-end models with MediaTek socs.
