Local music import support coming soon to YouTube Music

Google is working on the ability to add personal music from a phone to YouTube Music. The company would internally test a beta for that functionality, sources report to 9to5google. They say the feature will come soon.

The function to upload your own music has been in Google Play Music for some time, but not yet in YouTube Music. That would come now, the sources of 9to5google say. The sources say that will happen ‘sooner than later’. Google would already be testing internally with a beta. Users can also import music from their phone into YouTube Music. It had been expected for some time that this opportunity would arise; 9to5google previously discovered pieces of code in the app’s source code that hinted at this, and a similar function leaked out last year. Adding local music to YouTube Music would be the last major update before Google pulls the plug on Play Music.

Google has been planning to phase out Play Music for some time now. The company wants to eventually replace the music service with YouTube Music. This is now the standard in Android 10. It is not known when that should happen definitively, but according to the sources of 9to5google, Play Music would be discontinued in the second half of the year.
