Lego introduces robotics learning system for primary schools

Lego has announced WeDo 2.0, a learning package consisting of Lego bricks, a Smarthub, a motor and sensors, which should introduce primary school students to robotics. Also, the package includes Lego’s Core software.

Lego supplies WeDo 2.0 with a Smarthub element, which supports bluetooth le and is part of Lego Power Functions for powering and managing Lego creations. The package also includes a motor and a tilt and motion sensor, in addition to the Core software, Lego sets and documentation.

According to Lego, the WeDo 2.0 Core software allows students to easily program robots through a simple graphical drag & drop interface. Lego also provides a curriculum with teaching materials such as the ‘drop & rescue’ project. Children have to design prototypes that can be used after a natural disaster and that have the least possible impact on people, animals and the environment.

The software component and documentation for Lego Education WeDo 2.0 is available for iPad, Android, PC, and the Mac. The package will also be available for ChromeOS in the second half of 2016.
