iPhone 12 vs. iPhone 12 mini: what are the differences?
Apple announced the new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini last Tuesday. The name of course already reveals that they have a different format. But there are some other differences that are less obvious. We will list it briefly.
Size and weight
Of course you cannot ignore this. The iPhone 12 has a screen diagonal of 6.1 inches. The iPhone 12 mini is a lot more compact with a screen diagonal of 5.4 inches – according to Apple, it fits in the palm of your hand. The mini is therefore the smallest iPhone of the moment, even smaller than the iPhone SE . The SE does have a smaller screen, but due to the rough edges around it, that device is still larger than the iPhone 12 mini.
The iPhone 12 mini measures a total of 131.5 by 64.2 by 7.4 mm. The iPhone 12 measures 146.7 by 71.5 by 7.4mm. The iPhone 12 mini weighs 133 grams, the iPhone 12 162 grams.
Battery life
Only a smaller battery fits in a smaller housing. The iPhone 12 mini therefore has a shorter battery life. How that will turn out exactly, remains to be seen in practice. Apple names the differences as follows:
- Play Video: 15 vs. 17 hours
- Stream video: 10 vs. 11 hours
- Play Audio: 50 vs. 65 hours
The mini thus performs better than the iPhone SE. And that will get you through the day more than fine.
Resolution
Both the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 mini have an OLED screen. At this point, the mini wins, with a resolution of 476 ppi versus 460 ppi. You have to have laser eyes to see this, by the way. The pixels cannot be distinguished from each other anyway. But for the sake of completeness we would like to mention it.
Release date
The iPhone 12 will go into presale tomorrow and will actually be in the shops on Friday 23 October. Are you preying on an iPhone 12 mini, then you have to be a little more patient. It will go into presale on Friday November 6 and will be in stores on Friday November 13.
