The Finnish HMD Global is working on a 5g smartphone under the Nokia brand name that should be released next year. It should cost about half of what a 5g smartphone now costs. That is between 600 and 1400 euros.

HMD sees an opportunity to capture market share with a cheaper 5G phone, HMD’s Juho Sarvikas said in an interview with Digital Trends. “I’d say affordable relative to what you can buy now. I’d like to see us at half the price of what you’re paying now for 5G phones.”

The Finnish company is collaborating with Qualcomm and Nokia. Not only does it license the brand name, but it also has a lot of expertise in the field of mobile networks because it now mainly sells network equipment.

The cheapest device with 5G is currently the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G, with a suggested retail price of 600 euros. The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G costs around 900 euros from providers, Samsung asks around 1200 euros for the Galaxy S10 5G.
