GoPro stops making drones

GoPro stops making drones. The manufacturer announced this during the presentation of its quarterly figures. GoPro sees little future in consumer drones, because there is a lot of competition and the rules for flying drones are becoming stricter.

The GoPro Karma, the only drone the manufacturer has made, has reached second place in the consumer drone market, according to the manufacturer, but the manufacturer sees it as an “extremely competitive” market.

In addition, GoPro sees increasingly strict regulations for consumer drones as a threat to sales in the coming years. If people are not allowed to fly anywhere, the manufacturer expects that there will be less interest in new models.

GoPro will continue to support the current Karma and will also provide a warranty on its drone. The company is depleting stocks of the current drone, but will not produce a new one. GoPro presented its drone in September 2016. Due to a defect, the manufacturer stopped selling it. A few months later, the drone came out again.
