Google Wallet feature for adding cards via photo will be available in September update

This month, Google Wallet will have a function to import cards via a photo with a barcode or QR code. For example, it should be possible to use loyalty cards and other cards that Wallet does not support as standard in the app.

All Wallet needs is a photo with a QR code or barcode, as is apparent from Google’s explanation. Users can then give the card a name and description, after which it will appear as a new card in Wallet and can be used.

Google announced the feature in June and has now announced that it will be included in the September Feature Drop for Android. Presumably it is not part of a system update, but is included in an update for the Wallet app itself that will be released in the coming weeks. Similarly, the Google app gets the Assistant At A Glance widget. For a long time, that widget was only on Pixel phones, but the Assistant version with, among other things, notifications to announce calendar items or display flight information will be released for all Android phones.
