The Google Pixel 3a was briefly on the Google Store in the form of a broken link to a product page. It is the first time that anything from Google itself has come out about this alleged midrange variant of the Pixel 3.

Users who encountered the phenomenon have made screenshots of it, which can be found on 9to5Google, among others. References to the device have now been removed from the Google Store. There was also a link to a case for the Pixel 3a, with the word ‘fabric’ in the URL. Many of the previous rumors about the Pixel 3a spoke of a larger and a smaller variant of the device, but to date we have only heard of one new device from Google itself.

Almost simultaneously, new information has also surfaced through the Google Play Console, a developer environment. There, in the equipment catalog, are now the sargo and the bonito. According to rumors, these two fish names would be the code names of the two devices. Google has been naming its devices after fish for years when it comes to code names, so that could be right.

Screenshots from the Play Console show that the devices both have slightly under 4GB of RAM and run on Android 9. One device has a screen resolution of 1080 x 2160 with a pixel density of 400dpi, which equates to a screen diagonal of around 6″. The other is 1080 x 2220, 440dpi and ultimately about 5.6″ in diagonal.

According to previous rumors, the Pixel 3a will cost around 450 euros, the device has a Snapdragon 670 or 710 soc, a 3.5 mm jack, an OLED screen without notches. It is unknown when Google will unveil the device. On the Google Play Console you can find the string ‘pixel_2019_midyear_experience’ under system features, which means it may not be long.
