Google extends Cast function in Chrome 52

Google has extended the Cast feature from Chrome browser to Hangouts in the latest stable release, number 52.0.2743.116. Since Cast appeared in version 51 of the browser, more than 38 million times have been cast from the browser, according to Google.

The latter would have provided more than 50 million hours of streamed material, according to the Google Chrome blog. The developers have now further integrated the function with Google’s cloud service Hangouts. This means that a browser tab or the entire desktop can be streamed via Hangouts to, for example, participants in one of the Google Documents applications.

To use the function, Chrome 52 must be installed on the caster itself, this is not necessary for the other user. Images can also be shared with Cast for Education to show a presentation, for example.

Casting can be started in several ways, for example by clicking an icon on a site or by right-clicking on a web page or tab and selecting ‘Cast’. There is no need to install an extension anymore.
