Google’s biggest event of the year is cancelled. The I/O conference that was supposed to take place in May has been canceled due to concerns about the new corona virus. Visitors who have bought a ticket will get their money back before March 13th.

Google says the decision to cancel I/O this year was made in accordance with advice from health authorities including the WHO and the US CDC. The event was set to take place May 12-14 at the Shoreline Amphitheater near San Francisco.

Developers and other attendees who bought tickets for I/O 2020 will get their money back before March 13, Google says. Visitors who registered for this year’s edition will be invited to next year’s edition. They don’t have to re-enter a draw to get a ticket.

On the I/O site, Google says it will be looking at “other ways to engage with the developer community” in the coming weeks. Google’s annual I/O event focuses primarily on developers, but there is also a keynote each year in which Google announces new hardware and software.
