Google adds 50Hz support to Chromecast
Google announces that the Chromecast now supports 50Hz HDMI output. Users can enable the option in the advanced settings. The update allows video playback at 50fps and 25fps speeds without judder.
Due to popular demand, Google has added support for 50Hz to the Chromecast. With both the first version from 2013 and the new 2015 variant, the option is available in the advanced settings menu after the latest firmware has been installed.
Chromecast users have been complaining about the lack of 50Hz support since its introduction. Because the device initially only sent a 60Hz signal, it was not possible to play footage with a frame rate of 50fps or 25fps without judder.
It is unknown why it took so long. Also probably not all users are satisfied, because although the Chromecast now supports 60Hz and 50Hz, there is no native 24Hz support yet. Also, the Chromecast cannot adjust the output based on the footage itself.
