Epic Games has plans to bring its Epic Games Store to Android and iOS phones in the future. This digital store, like the Windows and Mac versions, should be opened up to third-party developers, who can sell their games there.

CEO Tim Sweeney does not give Gamespot a time frame for bringing the EGS to mobile phones. However, the developer seems to focus more on Android devices than on iOS devices. Regarding the coming to iOS, Sweeney says “we’d love to do that”; about Android, he says they’re “going to” do that.

It’s unclear how exactly the Store should work. After all, Apple does not allow users and developers to install apps outside the App Store. This is possible with Android. Epic Games initially distributed Fortnite outside of the Google Play Store. For example, players were shown security pop-ups. By bypassing the Play Store in this way, Epic Games did not have to pay any revenue to Google. Recently, Epic Games brought Fortnite to the Google Play Store. Epic Games may now want to develop a store itself, so as not to be dependent on Google and Apple.

At the end of 2018, Epic Games already indicated that the Games Store should also come to other platforms, with Android and iOS already mentioned. At that time, ‘in the course of 2019’ was still mentioned as a timeline. Developers who sell games through the Epic Games Store contribute 12 percent of the proceeds to Epic Games.
