Videobelapp Houseparty can no longer be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store from Thursday, and will no longer be available from October. The team is now working on other projects. Epic took over the app, which became more popular at the beginning of last year, in 2019.

The team behind Houseparty is now working within Epic Games on other projects that allow people to have social interactions with others. As a result, the developers say they can no longer give the Houseparty app and users the attention they would need. That’s why Epic Games will stop the video calling app in October.

Houseparty is an app that allows up to eight users to make video calls together. They can also play games together. The app was mainly used for private conversations. Epic Games acquired the app in 2019 and integrated the service into Fortnite. This Fortnite integration will also expire after October.

The Houseparty app gained a significant number of new users during the start of the corona pandemic. Fifty million new users joined in March; possibly seven times what had been normal until then. The developers say they have had tens of millions of users since the app launched in 2016.
