Developer gets Android 7.0 working on OnePlus One

A developer has managed to run Android 7.0 on his OnePlus One. He has released a ROM that allows others to install the software, although it is still far from stable. It is not yet known whether the OnePlus One will also receive an official update to Android 7.0.

The software has been published on the XDA developer forum. A developer with the pseudonym updateing created the rom, and it can be installed by people who have unlocked the bootloader on the OnePlus One and installed a custom recovery. However, the maker warns that the software does not yet function fully. For example, GPS, hardware encryption and a number of other things do not work.

It is possible that the developer will make improvements to the ROM in the future. However, he says that the software is mainly intended to ‘taste’ Android 7.0. It is likely that a well-functioning ROM will eventually be published with the new Android version, given the large number of developers building alternative ROMs.

It is not yet known whether there will be an official update to Android 7.0. The OnePlus One was the first smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer, which was then followed by the OnePlus 2, OnePlus X and OnePlus 3. Google released the new Android version, called Nougat, last week.
