Developer Bungie gives Destiny 2’s pvp mode a 120fps mode. At least the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 will receive support for the high frame rate. The next-gen update for the game will be released on December 8th.

Bungie the advent of the 120fps mode in the Xbox Launch Celebration live stream. It is not yet known at what resolution the Crucible mode runs when using the high frame rate. The developer previously announced that Destiny 2 will receive an update for the next-gen consoles, after which the game will run in 4k at 60fps on the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5.

Obviously, the 120fps mode uses a lower resolution. The high frame rate is only available in Crucible, the pvp multiplayer part of the game, where players compete against each other.

With the previously announced update, the game will run in 1080p resolution at 60fps on Xbox Series S. If that console also gets a 120fps mode, the resolution should probably be further reduced. Bungie hasn’t given any details about that yet.

A new expansion for Destiny 2, entitled Beyond Light, also appeared on Tuesday. Since September, the game, including add-ons, has been part of Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription. Xbox owners with that subscription can download the new add-on for free. Currently the console game is still running at 30fps. The next-gen update will be released on December 8th.
