CCP Games has announced that it will close two of its five studios and focus less on VR games. The decision is accompanied by the layoff of 100 employees. CCP Games is the developer of VR game Eve: Valkyrie.

The decision was announced in an interview with an Icelandic site and CCP Games later confirmed the news in a response to PC Gamer, among others. In it, the company writes: “Despite the success of the VR games we have released, we are going to focus on PC and mobile platforms.” Support for existing VR titles will remain, but there will be no investments in new titles until ‘market conditions change’.

The developer closes its Atlanta studio and sells its Newcastle studio, causing 100 employees to lose their jobs. In a forum response, Community Manager CCP Falcon said the decision will not affect Eve Online. He argues that the reorganization would put more emphasis on the game that the developer released in 2003. CCP Games is said to still have “big plans” for the mmorpg.

The Icelandic developer has released several VR games such as Sparc, Gunjack and Eve: Valkyrie. For the latter game, a major update called Warzone recently came out. This made it possible to play the game without a VR headset. EVE: Valkyrie was released in March last year for the Oculus Rift and then also appeared for the PlayStation VR and HTC Vive. The game will continue to receive support, according to a forum post.
