BlackBerry hints on a developer weblog that it will release a new device with a square screen. The new version of the BlackBerry operating system, 10.3, includes support for a device with a resolution of 1440 by 1440 pixels.

The support for screens with a 1440×1440 resolution is built in, according to BlackBerry, for “a new device” that BlackBerry “will not disclose information at this time.” It is clear that the screen in question will have a pixel density of 453.

Converted, this amounts to a screen with a screen diagonal of 4.5 inches, which would make it a phone and not a tablet. The screen therefore has a size of 8 by 8 centimeters. Since it is a square screen, the device probably has a hardware keyboard on board.

Furthermore, BlackBerry 10.3 includes support for another device, which has an unknown screen resolution.
