Anthem, the new game from Mass Effect development studio Bioware, will be available on February 27, 2019 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows. The studio also showed a trailer and short gameplay demo at the EA-E3 press conference.

In a group discussion with Bioware employees Casey Hudson, Mark Darrah and Catleen Rootsaert, some details are discussed. The world of Anthem should feel alive through conditions such as a day and night cycle and changing weather conditions. Anthem can be played in co-op, and to give the feeling that players are really in the same world, these conditions will be synchronized for all players, even if they are not in the same instance.

The four exosuits, called Javelins in the game, are the Ranger, Colossus, Interceptor, and Storm. Two of the four have been covered in more detail: the Ranger is an all-rounder that is effective at multiple ranges, and the Colossus is a heavier, specialized Javelin that can wield big weapons.

In the game, players can purchase certain personal customizations for their Javelins through microtransactions. The developers say you’ll be spending a lot of time in these four exosuits, so players should really be able to make them their own. They emphasize that it will not be possible to purchase gameplay benefits with real money. Anthem will also be continuously developed, which is also known as a game as a service, similar to Rainbow Six: Siege for example.

Anthem is set in an overgrown, post-apocalyptic world, where conditions are so harsh that people outside the safety of fortresses have to move around in large robotic suits or vehicles. The world contains violent storms, mutated creatures and giant monsters. Not much more is known about the story.

The trailer is now online, but the gameplay demo is part of the EA livestream on YouTube that does not have rewind. Until the livestream is over, it cannot be viewed yet.
