Apple: slightly curved iPad Pro meets or exceeds quality requirements kwaliteits

Apple’s senior VP of hardware engineering Dan Riccio states in an email that the new iPad Pro, despite curved housings, “meets or even exceeds all quality requirements.” The ruling is an even firmer defense of the phenomenon than the company previously gave.

Dan Riccio emails several Apple customers with this message in response to their complaints about curved iPad Pros. 9to5Mac has put such an email online. “The unibody design meets all of Apple’s rigorous quality standards for design and precision manufacturing. We’ve designed it carefully and every part of the manufacturing process is precisely measured and controlled,” said the CEO.

He also emphasizes that the functionality is not affected by any curvature and says that this iPad “may bend a maximum of 0.4 millimeters, in other words the thickness of less than four layers of paper”. So, users dealing with this issue would do well to check whether their iPad Pro falls within that range or not.

Apple’s statements are a step above what it said before; last Wednesday, the tech giant already announced that a possible curvature can occur and that, according to the company, this is not a defect. This means that users cannot have the iPad Pro with this defect repaired or replaced free of charge under the warranty.

A possible slight bend in the housing of Apple’s new iPad Pro is a result of the production process. If the metal housing is combined with plastic components and then cools, this can apparently occur. It can occur on both the 11″ and the 12.9″ version. The 4g version would suffer more as it has a plastic antenna line on the back.
