Apple has released a fix for using ultra-wide monitors with Macs with the M1-soc. Users who connect an extra wide monitor to it have problems finding the right resolution. The update should fix that.

Apple acknowledges on a support page that there is a problem recognizing the resolution of ultra-wide monitors. In such a case, not all resolutions supported by the display are available. Apple says it is aware of the problem and that a patch will follow in the future.

It is not known exactly how widespread the problem is. On forums, among others, users complain that the correct resolution does not appear in the settings, but that does not seem to be the case for every user. Apple does not write exactly when the patch should be released. This may happen in an update to macOS Big Sur, the most recent version of the operating system.
