Apple has announced that in the beta of iOS 10.3 the file system will be converted to APFS. The company also adds Night Shift to macOS. The blue light filter was introduced in mobile devices last year.

When updating to the beta, the file system is converted automatically. According to the release notes, no data is lost. Despite this, Apple does recommend that you create a backup beforehand. In addition, support for searching lost AirPods has been added to the Find My iPhone feature in the beta.

APFS was announced last year and was initially only available for experimental use in macOS Sierra, but it now seems to be making its way to iOS. The file system replaces HFS+ and provides better support for flash storage.

Apple has also introduced support for Night Shift in the beta for macOS 10.12.4. The function makes it possible to make the screen less blue when the sun has set. It can be activated in the display settings.

Night Shift has been available on Apple’s mobile devices since iOS 9.3. Until now, users who wanted to use such a function often used f.lux for this. Microsoft will also introduce a blue light filter in Windows 10 in a future update.

Apple has not yet announced when the final versions of iOS 10.3 and macOS 10.12.4 will be released.
