Netflix lets Android users save downloads to micro SD card

Netflix has released an update to its Android app that makes it possible to store downloads on micro-SD cards in smartphones and tablets. Initially, downloaded series and movies could only be stored on the internal memory of the devices.

The new version of the app with SD card support is available in the Google Play Store. Users can choose in the app whether they want to save downloads to the internal memory of their Android device, or whether the films and series should end up on the micro-SD card.

Netflix reports that the feature is not available on all devices, but does not provide further details. The maker of the streaming service may refer to the fact that not all devices have a micro-SD card slot.

The download function was introduced in November last year. Members of the service can save selected movies and series to Android and iOS devices for later offline viewing. The downloads remain on the device for a limited time. How long the film or series remains available offline varies per title.
