The Chinese smartphone maker ZTE has put a render online of what will probably be the first smartphone with a front camera behind the screen. The render does not show the front camera. ZTE will present the phone in two weeks.

A Weibo CEO has put the image on Weibo as a teaser. The teaser does not show the bezels, but they can be seen in another teaser. The front camera cannot be seen on this either. The ZTE Axon 20 5G will probably be the first phone with a front camera behind the screen when it is announced on September 1. That front camera has a resolution of 32 megapixels.

The screen, which will also have a fingerprint scanner behind it, has a diagonal of 6.92 “and a resolution of 2460×1080 pixels, resulting in a screen ratio of 20.5: 9, with a size of 16.1×7.1cm and a surface of almost 114 square centimeters. The cameras on the back are a primary 64-megapixel camera, a camera with an ultra-wide angle lens of 8 megapixels and two 2-megapixel cameras, presumably a macro camera and depth sensor.

To get the front camera behind the screen, the Chinese manufacturer probably uses technology from the Chinese Visionox. That company took an OLED screen with a front camera behind the pixels into mass production in June.

In recent years, attention has been paid to the technology and Oppo, among others, has shown it as a prototype. With the bezels that have become smaller, the front camera first disappeared in a notch. After that, some smartphones appeared with the front camera in a pop-up module, but the most common method now is to put the front camera in a hole in the screen.
