The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is going to give devices up to five years old, updates to the new version of its Miui 9 skin. Of the oldest model, the Mi 2 and variant Mi 2s, there are still five million active copies in circulation, the manufacturer claims.

It concerns the Chinese version of the update that Xiaomi will distribute from next month, Miui.com writes. The update is the first to be released for newer devices such as the Mi 6 and the Redmi Note 4. In the second phase, devices such as the five-year-old Mi 2 will be added.

The Mi 4i is missing from the list of devices, because it has no Chinese firmware and only has a Global ROM. There will be a separate announcement for that. What changes Miui 9 has compared to its predecessor is not yet clear; Xiaomi will unveil Miui 9 next week. It is unknown which Android version is the basis of Miui 9. The updates of Miui are separate from the Android versions.

The Mi 2 came out about the same with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Google Nexus 4 and iPhone 5. The latter has had its last major update with iOS 10, because Apple has announced that iOS 11 will not run on the iPhone 5 from 2012 and the iPhone 5c from 2013.
