Xiaomi is also entering the laptop market, according to a statement by Inventec’s CEO Richard Lee. Lee made the statement at an event in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Xiaomi’s laptops should hit the market in the first or second quarter of 2016.

Furthermore, the CEO of Inventec, the manufacturer that makes many of Xiaomi’s products, thinks that Xiaomi will also take a “different approach than other companies” with the way it sells laptops, although he does not say how that will be.

Lee goes on to say that the upcoming laptop will fall into a low price category, just like Xiaomi does with its other products, of which smartphones are the best known. The laptop will initially only be released in China. It is still unclear what operating system will run on it.

Earlier this month there were rumors about a possible Xiaomi laptop that has to compete with laptops like the Macbook Air and Lenovo’s Thinkpad. According to the same sources, there would also be talks with Samsung about supplying memory chips and possibly also displays, but for now those are rumors.
