Xiaomi presents Miui 8 and large smartphone Mi Max with 4850mAh battery
Xiaomi has presented its large smartphone Mi Max. The device has a 6.44 “LCD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The battery in the 7.5 mm thick device has a capacity of 4850 mAh, larger than the batteries that Xiaomi has put in devices so far.
The largest batteries Xiaomi has used so far have a capacity of 4000mAh, like the one in the Redmi Note 3 with a 5.5″ screen. The Mi Max measures 17.3×8.8cm, making it one of the largest smartphones on the market. The phone is a bit smaller than the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, a device that came out in 2013 and also has a 6.44 “screen. The Mi Max weighs 203 grams.
The Mi Max in its cheapest version has a memory of 3GB, storage of 32GB and a Snapdragon 650. The most expensive version has 4GB memory, 128GB storage and a Snapdragon 652-soc. Where the recently released Mi 5 has a fingerprint scanner on the front, the manufacturer has placed it on the back with the large smartphone.
The camera has a maximum resolution of sixteen megapixels. It is probably the same IMX298 from Sony as in the Mi 5. That is a 1/2.6 “sensor with 1.12 micron pixels. The camera focuses with phase detection autofocus.
It is unknown which 4G frequencies the device supports, but no Xiaomi phone has full 4G support in the Benelux so far. The Mi Max will be released in China next week. The cheapest version costs 1499 yuan, currently converted about 202 euros. The most expensive version must fetch 1999 yuan, converted around 270 euros.
Xiaomi also presented Miui 8, the new version of its Android skin. It will be released as an update for all devices in the Mi series, Mi Note series and all devices since the Mi 2 from 2012. The new version includes functions to adapt the color theme to the weather, draw on photos and improved video editing features. There is also a function to prevent apps from starting on boot.
Miui 8 will be released as a test version on June 1, and should appear as a firmware update to users of the skin later this year. According to the manufacturer, there are around two hundred million users of its Android edition worldwide.
