Windows Phone 8.1 enables extra large live tiles

Windows Phone 8 will give users the option to set larger live tiles than is currently possible with its upcoming major update. This reports a Twitter user who previously released Windows Phone news early. Nokia already showed an image of the larger tiles.

“Windows Phone 8.1 offers the live tile sizes small, medium, wide and large”, reports Twitter user Nawzil. In the past, he has regularly released information about Microsoft’s operating system correctly. If the information is correct, then Microsoft will follow the interface changes of Windows 8.1; that update also brought the ability to make tiles larger than before.

The message seems to confirm what NokiaPoweruser made up from an earlier image of Nokia. Nokia posted a photo of the Lumia 1520 on its Facebook page in late January, which showed live tiles three times the size of a half-sized tile. According to WMPoweruser, concept images of Windows Phone with oversized tiles were already circulating in 2011.

The Windows Phone 8.1 update is expected in May this year. Images of a new notification center in the operating system also appeared on Sunday.
