There will be an option for users of a Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+ to run Windows programs on the Galaxy S8 with software from VMware. Samsung and VMware will work together for this. Windows programs are run via DeX.

With the DeX Dock announced on Wednesday, users of a Galaxy S8 or S8+ can use the phone on a large screen and with mouse and keyboard. Access to Windows programs is through VMware Workspace ONE, a paid service that can run programs on servers and stream the image to the S8. Security is done through VMware Horizon.

HP has such a service for its Windows 10 Mobile phone Elite X3. It can stream Windows programs to the smartphone via a service from HP. This is also a paid service. The Snapdragon 835 soc that Samsung is putting in the Galaxy S8 in certain parts of the world also has support for emulating x86 software. However, that doesn’t work on Android. Samsung presented its latest smartphone on Wednesday afternoon. The device will go on sale at the end of April.
