Vivo has shown a prototype of its augmented reality glasses. The Vivo AR Glass is a headset with a double transparent screen. The glasses will be linked to the Vivo 5G smartphone, which the company will announce later this week.

It is the first time Vivo has shown a working prototype of the AR glasses since the company already released teasers last year. Vivo showed the glasses during MWC Shanghai, the telecom fair that takes place this week in the Chinese city.

The Vivo AR Glass has two screens that are translucent, so that an image is projected over reality. The glasses use 6DoF technology, where the user can just walk around and the image continues to change. For this, the device must be connected with a cable to the 5G smartphone that Vivo also announces at the fair, but about which little is known. According to the company, the device will be released in the third quarter of this year. The price of both the phone and the AR Glass is not yet known. Vivo also does not want to say anything about the technology in the glasses.

Vivo says there are five different types of uses for the AR Glass. This concerns mobile gaming, mobile office, ‘5G theatre’, facial recognition and object recognition. The smartphone is used as a console and can be used for different types of input. For example, in gaming, the phone can become a controller, while mobile workers can use it as a keyboard, for example.
