Vivo announces X30 Pro smartphone with periscopic camera

Smartphone maker Vivo, affiliated with brands such as Oppo and OnePlus, has presented the X30 and X30 Pro. The latter has a camera with a periscopic zoom lens with an angle of view of 135mm in 35mm equivalent.

In addition to the 13-megapixel camera with ‘5x zoom’ with an f/3.0 lens, the X30 Pro also has a camera with telephoto lens that offers ‘2x zoom’. This counts as a ‘portrait camera’ with autofocus that automatically focuses on eyes and of course tries to blur the background. The primary camera has a resolution of 64 megapixels, while there is also an ultra-wide-angle camera. The non-Pro version of the X30 has to do without the periscopic camera.

The phones have an OLED screen of 14.9 x 6.7 cm with a diagonal of 6.44 “and an aspect ratio of 20: 9. Vivo claims that the screens reach up to 1200 candela per square meter of brightness locally when needed for HDR images. By default, the brightness is up to 800 candelas per square meter.The phones have a 4350mAh battery that can be charged with 33W.

Vivo stops the Exynos 980 with integrated 5G modem in the phones. The X30 phones will be released in China later this month. There is no word yet on a release outside of China. The X30 Pro is the third phone with a periscopic camera after the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom and Huawei P30 Pro. The camera sensor is rotated a quarter turn in the housing, while a mirror guides the incoming light there. This construction makes it possible to build in a camera with a longer focal length in a phone, without the phone having to be much thicker.
