Valve starts selling refurbished Steam Decks

Valve has started selling ‘certified refurbished’ Steam Deck handhelds. These have been fully tested at Valve’s factories, according to the manufacturer, but may have minor cosmetic imperfections at a lower price.

Valve now sells refurbished variants from all three Steam Deck versions. A version with 64GB storage costs 339 euros, a 256GB variant costs 439 euros and the one with 512GB storage costs 539 euros. The refurbished Steam Deck variants are therefore approximately twenty percent cheaper than regular retail variants of the handheld.

With the Certified Refurbished program, Valve selects Steam Decks that are returned by customers. The manufacturer says those Steam Decks are cleaned and undergo the same testing as the brand new Steam Decks before being sold. The handhelds are tested for, among other things, the operation of the controller, the audio system, the screen and the internal components. The ‘health’ of the battery is also tested.

All refurbished Steam Decks “meet or exceed” the performance standards of new retail Steam Decks, Valve says. The handhelds may have ‘minor cosmetic damage’, such as scratches on the plastic housing but not on the screen. Those imperfections should not have an impact on the functionality of the handheld.

They also receive the same warranty period and support as the retail variants. They come with a refurbished charger, a storage case and a manual. Valve says that supplies of refurbished Steam Decks are limited and therefore availability may fluctuate.
