Several users are complaining on the internet that they have lost photos, other files and programs after implementing the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. Some report that their entire Documents folder is empty.

Users on Twitter, Reddit and the Windows forum are complaining about the missing files, MSPoweruser and Windows Central note. For example, on the Windows forum, user Robert Ziko complains that 220GB of data has disappeared from his Documents folder, which no longer appeared even after a rollback.

On Reddit, several people confirm the problem and in addition to the Documents folder, users also lost photos, videos and music. The files are not with windows.old or under another user and seem to have been deleted permanently.

Users recommend that you wait with the installation or at least make backups before the update is implemented. It is not possible to determine from the notifications whether the users had synchronized their Documents folder with OneDrive and whether the storage service is therefore part of the problem or can provide a solution. According to MSPoweruser, a similar issue occurred among Insider testers prior to the release of the October 2018 Update.

ZDNet also reports an incompatible Intel driver. These are systems with the Intel Audio Display driver, intcdaud.sys, versions 10.25.0.3 to 10.25.0.8. Users will receive a ‘What needs your attention’ warning and Microsoft recommends that they hold off on updating.
