The US EPIC has filed a lawsuit to prevent the creation of a database of voters from all 50 states. This includes, for example, names, addresses, political preferences and voting history from 2006.

According to the organization, a committee was set up in May to investigate registration and voting in the recent US elections. According to President Trump, 3 to 5 million illegal votes were cast in the election, according to EPIC. The group has now filed a lawsuit. It says that the commission’s request for states to provide voter data violates the right to privacy protection. In addition, the organization wants a so-called privacy impact assessment to be carried out first to investigate the consequences of the request.

Privacy organizations and experts previously sent a letter in which they set out their views on the request. They disagree that it is unclear in advance how the data will be used, who has access to it and what protection measures will be taken. Requesting such data would not have happened before.

According to Reuters, more and more US states are opposing the request. To date, more than 20 states have rejected the request, saying it is unnecessary and an invasion of privacy. President Trump won the election through electoral votes based on the profits in certain states. According to the news agency, he lost by 3 million citizen votes to candidate Hillary Clinton. He claimed that he could have won in that area too, had there been no fraud.
