Upcoming Windows 10 version seems to support wpa3

Microsoft has released a preview of the SDK of build version 18272 of Windows 10, the version due next year known as Windows 19H1. There are indications in the sdk that the operating system will support wpa3.

The Windows 10 Preview Build of the SDK that can be used in combination with build 18272 and later versions of the Windows 10 Insider Preview is available on the Windows Insider developer site, Microsoft has announced.

The api additions list wpa3 and wpa3 sae under NetworkAuthenticationType. This indicates that Microsoft is going to support the new wireless network security in Windows 10 19H1. Windows 10 19H1 is the name that the company uses for the time being for the version of the operating system that should be released in the first half of 2019.

Wpa stands for ‘wi-fi protected access’ and wpa3 is the successor to wpa2, which has been the standard since 2006. In 2016, researchers from KU Leuven published the Krack method, which can be used to successfully attack wpa2, after which a successor had to be developed. Since then, the sector has been working on the transition to the safer WPA variant. Sae stands for simultaneous authentication of equals. This is an authentication method that replaces the wpa2 pre-shared key and is intended for home networks.
