UK is considering providing new homes with charging points for electric cars

The UK government has released a report considering a plan to require a charge point to be installed at every new home to be built, where location and other conditions allow.

It is not only new, suitable houses that are required to have a charging point; all new street lamps must also be equipped with this, provided the location allows and there is parking on the street. To make this possible, the British Ministry of Transport is setting up an investment fund of approximately 450 million euros. Converted, a maximum of 563 million euros will also be available for existing homeowners and companies to install charging points. With this, the government hopes to stimulate the use of electric cars.

This plan is part of the British government’s aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050 compared to the situation in 1990. A total of around 1.7 billion euros is earmarked for this until 2020 for measures to achieve this, of which the installation of the extra charging points is a part. In 2040 there will also be a ban on the sale of cars that run on petrol or diesel.
