Ubisoft will not release a new game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise this year. The publisher has announced this. The publisher wants to work on the next game. There are still smaller spin-offs coming out this year.

Ubisoft says it learned from the feedback on AC: Unity which was full of bugs and used 2016 to hone the game mechanics. It is obvious that in 2017 a completely new game will appear in the Assassin’s Creed series. Earlier there were rumors that it would be a game that is set in ancient Egypt.

The game publisher says in the quarterly figures that the sales of the latest Assassin’s Creed game, Syndicate, are disappointing. “We are now in a position to make a decision not to release another AC game in 2016, to bring a new dimension to the brand while still showing solid financial targets for the year ahead.” Assassin’s Creed is the most important game series for Ubisoft and the disappointing sales of AC games are pushing the publisher’s results.

Until now, a new game has appeared every year in the franchise in recent years, of which Syndicate, Rogue and Unity are the latest. Spinoffs of the existing games will appear this year and an AC film will be released in December.
